Track turned into a contact sport on Sunday when Kenny Bednarek shoved Noah Lyles after Lyles outpaced him to the finish line in the 200-meter final at the USA Track and Field Outdoor Championships. Lyles closed in on Bednarek in the homestretch to clinch victory with a time of 19.63 seconds.

As he crossed the finish line, Lyles turned to Bednarek, who was in the adjacent lane, and began to engage him verbally. Just a few steps after they crossed, Bednarek reacted by delivering a two-handed shove to Lyles.

Lyles spun around, backpedaled, and stretched out his arms while continuing to argue with Bednarek. Their heated exchange extended into the NBC interview that followed.

“I tell ya, if you’ve got a problem, I expect a call,” Bednarek said. To this, Lyles responded, “You know what, you’re right. You’re right. Let’s talk after this.”

When asked by the network’s Lewis Johnson about what transpired, Bednarek stated, “I’m not going to say it out here, but we got something to do and talk about pacquiao mayweather rematch.”

The next chapter of this rivalry is set to unfold on September 19 in Japan, where both athletes are expected to be among the favorites in the 200-meter final. Lyles aims to emulate Usain Bolt by winning four consecutive world titles in his signature event.

Lyles has had a slow start to a season that has seen Bednarek emerge as the dominant sprinter of 2025. Bednarek had already claimed victory in the 100 meters on Friday and triumphed over Lyles at the Olympics last year, where Lyles secured a bronze medal while battling COVID-19.
